The secret is out: Deerfield River a top spot

Trout Unlimited wants anglers to know the upper Deerfield is a great option for fishing.

DEERFIELD VALLEY - Many throughout Windham County and Cheshire County, NH, know of the two trophy stretches for trout in the area: the Black River in Cavendish and the Sugar River in Newport, NH. The reaches of river have a two-fish limit but what fish they are. The problem of knowing about something is that others know about it too and on some days, especially weekends, things get a wee bit jammed.
The Connecticut River Valley Chapter of Trout Unlimited would like people who fish to know they now have a third option and that is on the Deerfield River in the reach between Searsburg and Somerset dams. It has the same two-fish limit as the Black River stretch but, as it is located on the edge of the Green Mountain National Forest, it has a different feel than the Black River. It is remote, lonesome, and wild.
