Theft of mail, attempted fraud
WILMINGTON- The Wilmington Police Department is investigating a report that a local resident’s mail had been skimmed from the mail drop box outside the US Post Office on East Main Street on the evening of Wednesday, March 11. The mail contained a check from a personal account that was then altered, and the suspects attempted to cash it. During their investigation police learned that the US Postal Inspection Service has been investigating similar reports of mail being skimmed from drop boxes at several other locations in Vermont.
