1920s Broadway comes to valley

WILLIAMSVILLE - Rock River Players will present Hecht and MacArthur’s screwball comedy “The Front Page,” Friday, November 5 to Sunday, November 7, and Friday, November 12 to Sunday, November 14, at the Williamsville Hall on Dover Road. Friday and Saturday performances are at 7 pm; Sundays at 2:30 pm.
Directed by Bahman Mahdavi, this broad comedy is a purely American story. Opening on Broadway in 1928, just a year before the stock-market crash, “The Front Page” derided polite mores of the times with its crusty dubiously-ethical characters, its rough language and grit, and its sharply sarcastic view of corrupt politics and bumbling law enforcement. The fast paced, rat-a-tat dialogue and the ever-increasing pace of the story bring a certain euphoria to the audience that can still be experienced today.
The company is fully vaccinated. Masks and proof of vaccination or of a negative COVID-19 test not less than 48 hours old are required of all audience members. Seating is limited to 40 per performance. Online tickets are available at rockriverplayers.org.
