Art center hosts free talks

John Newsom will lead a walk-through at BMAC.

BRATTLEBORO - The Brattleboro Museum and Art Center will be hosting two free online talks next week.
Artist John Newsom will lead a walkthrough of the BMAC exhibit “EXPEDITION” on Wednesday, August 25, at 7:30 pm. This free event will take place in person at BMAC, and will be simultaneously livestreamed via Zoom and Facebook Live.
On view through October 11, “EXPEDITION,” which was organized by Newsom, features work by 17 artists. Newsom invited each of them to contribute artwork on the theme of venturing into unknown realms. Most contributed one painting each, while Wendy White created a site-specific installation and Donald Baechler delivered a large bronze sculpture for the museum’s front lawn.
A limited-edition catalogue of the exhibit is available in both hardcover and softcover at brattleboromuseum.org.
The BMAC will also present “Representations of Railroading,” by Scott Lothes, president and executive director of the Center for Railroad Photography and Art, on Thursday, August 26, at 7:30 pm.
As one of the world’s most transformative technologies, railroads are frequent subjects of all forms of art. This presentation traces that long relationship, focusing on paintings from the 1830s to the present. The talk is offered in connection with “Charlie Hunter: Semaphore,” an exhibit of railroad art currently on view at BMAC.
