Senior Solutions to make use of old firehouse

WILMINGTON - In a new collaboration, Senior Solutions and the town of Wilmington have come together to offer senior application assistance and other programming in the Old Firehouse at 18 Beaver Street beginning in August.
Last month Senior Solutions board president Geri Kogut met with town manager Scott Tucker to discuss uses for the decommissioned town-owned firehouse. Tucker envisions allowing multiple organizations to use the building for health and wellness services for area residents. The building includes a conference room with TV and WiFi, a private office, and a small kitchen.  Senior Solutions is one of the first organizations to pledge a presence at the facility.
Beginning on Thursday, August 11, Senior Solutions staff member Thom Simmons will be present from 11 am to 1 pm on every second and fourth Thursday to assist with seasonal heating fuel and electric discount applications, 3SquaresVT food benefits, Meals on Wheels intakes, and more.  In the future, tai chi classes, nutritional demonstrations, and Medicare open enrollment information classes are all expected to be held at the location.
For residents of the Deerfield Valley who find transportation to the larger service institutions in the Connecticut River Valley difficult and who dread the current travel conditions on Route 9 during reconstruction, this provides access to Senior Solutions’ services directly in the community.
