Auction will feature local fine art

WILMINGTON - As part of a long-term effort to promote visual art and help in the redevelopment of the Beaver Street neighborhood, Wilmington Works is ready to take the next steps with its public art project.
The community voted a little over a year ago to select a flat metal sculpture in corten steel, designed by Junker Studio, of Chester, as the winning proposal for the retaining wall. Since the community vote, work has been going on behind the scenes to adapt the final proposal to community input, and review the design with an engineer to make sure that mounting the project will be a success.
With all that accomplished, the public is now invited to join in supporting the project through donations and, from July 3 to 20, by bidding in a fine art auction and purchasing raffle tickets. Local artists, including Jim McGrath, Aysha Peltz, Ann Coleman, Karen Wheeler, Jen Violette, Haley Frano, and Nancy Libby, are joining Junker Studio in donating their works for auction. Junker Studio has donated two large corten steel garden sculptures that would be a terrific addition to any local property.
Works for sale will be on display at the Southern Vermont Deerfield Valley Chamber during the auction. In addition to art, there will be raffle tickets for sale for non-art donations from local businesses.
Volunteers will be at the chamber at 21 West Main Street from 11 am to 3 pm on Saturday, July 3, and Sunday, July 4. Stop by, learn more about the project, and see the art that is available for purchase in the auction.
