TV 9, West Rutland 6

WILMINGTON- The Twin Valley baseball team had their way with West Rutland this season. Last Thursday, the Wildcats completed the two-game sweep, beating the Golden Horde, 9-6, for their fifth victory of the season.

West Rutland was no match for Twin Valley’s hitting and pitching. Gus Wing pitched for the Wildcats and struck out three batters. Wing was effective on the mound, but his pitch count was too high by the top of the third. Wing was replaced by Ian Murdock, who pitched three-and-a-half solid innings.

Wing was also productive on offense. He went two for four with an RBI; Skyler Duncan went one for four with two RBIs; Ricky Pereira went one for four with two RBIs; Murdock went one for four; and Tony Bernard scored an RBI on a sacrifice.

Twin Valley 0, Leland & Gray 24 (four innings)

WILMINGTON- The Leland & Gray baseball team is not the two-time defending division III champions for nothing. They have raw talent at the plate, on the mound, and in the field. Put all of those together and it’s no surprise when the Rebels crush their opponents. Last Saturday, the Wildcats were on the receiving end of the Rebels’ onslaught and lost 24-0. Leland & Gray swept Twin Valley in the two-game series.

Trevor Howe and co-captain Colin Nystrom pitched a combined shutout and gave up one hit to Tony Bernard. Duncan had a rough outing on the mound. He lasted two-thirds of an inning, gave up several runs, and was relieved by Bernard. But Bernard got into trouble and skipper Cliff Duncan replaced him with first-time pitcher Ryan Dix. Dix struggled as well and the game was called in the fourth inning. “There were no success stories today. Leland & Gray was hitting the ball and they spanked us well,” said Coach Duncan.

The Wildcats gave up 18 hits and two home runs to Brandon Riley and Tyler Russell of Leland & Gray. Gabe Pozzi also knocked in four RBIs for the Rebels.

Twin Valley 9, Arlington 7

WILMINGTON- On Monday, the Wildcats held off Arlington’s late-inning rally and won, 9-7. It was the Wildcats’ sixth victory of the season and their second win in three games.

The Eagles got off to a quick start with two runs in the bottom of the first. The Wildcats responded with two runs in the first, two runs in the third, three in the fourth, one in the fifth, and one more in the sixth.

Duncan returned to the mound and fared much better than his Leland & Gray outing. He pitched four innings, gave up two earned runs, and struck out six for the victory. Bernard relieved Duncan in the fifth and struck out three batters, while Murdock closed out the win with a strikeout.

Dix went one for four with an RBI; Ryan Bernard went three for four with a stolen base and two doubles; George Molner filled in as designated hitter and went two for three with an RBI; Murdock went three for four with two doubles and five RBIs; and Tony Bernard went two for three with two RBIs.

Coach Duncan tipped his hat to Pereira and Pat Eilers for making key defensive plays.

The Wildcats are 6-9 and finish the regular season on Friday against Proctor. Game time is 4:30 pm. The division IV playoff brackets will be announced on Monday.
