Another exciting placement for MSA this week was that Eli Swing won the giant slalom at Future Stars, a training and competition camp for J4 racers (ages 11 and 12). About 150 competitors were selected to attend based on their rankings at state championship races throughout the East. Swing’s win in this highly competitive field has qualified him to move on to the second annual Can/Am at Sugarloaf in Maine on April 3 and 4. The Can/Am will bring together the top 30 American boys to compete with 30 Canadian boys. Swing made it to the Can/Am last year, where he placed first among first-year racers and 15th overall. He’ll be shooting to beat that placement this year.
In other alpine action, several Mount Snow racers were at the VARA Vermont Cup Slalom Finals at Killington last week. Ian Wolff placed first among the J2s (ages 15 and 16).
After the J3 Olympics, J3s (ages 13 and 14) who will be moving up to the J2 age group in the coming season can begin to compete in J2 races. Alva Swing and Andrew Sherras, competing for the first time in J2 races, came in third and 10th respectively among J3s at the Vermont Cup Slalom Finals.
On March 21, J4 (ages 11 and 12) racers went to Suicide Six to race for the Slush Cup. Sarah Reilly finished fifth among J4 girls and Richard Sherras took sixth among the boys.
Mount Snow Academy alums also figured prominently in the past week’s action.
At the Mount Snow Free Ski Open, Chris Logan won the slopestyle event at the pro level, and Parker White placed fourth in the same event.
On the women’s side, Devin Logan made the podium twice, taking first place in halfpipe and second in slopestyle.
