DOVER- On Sunday, March 7, Mount Snow hosted one of its favorite annual competitions, the Jack Jump World Championships. Competitors raced down a slalom course in custom-made ski-seats for a chance to be the best in the world. These ski seats are called jack jumps and are what mechanics and lift attendants used for transportation before snowmobiles became common place.
This year’s event brought out a record number of 69 participants. Competitors attended from all areas of the Northeast ranging from Connecticut to northern Vermont. Some local competitors fared extremely well in their divisions including, from Dover: Gina Sarlo, fifth; Stephanie Conrad, eighth; William Staats, fifth; Ernie Dibble, 16th; Bob Adams, 20th; Kris Greene, 34th. From Wilmington: Sue Zukatis, first; Linda Chamberlain, seventh; Darby Howe, third; Hank Darlington, eighth. From West Wardsboro: Lori Pulis, eighth. From Jacksonville: Brad Lackey, eleventh; Bo Crawford, 26th. From Whitingham: James Walker, ninth. From Marlboro: Sally White, second
A post-event party was held at the Snow Barn where champions were awarded their prizes, each competitor received a souvenir glass and free pizza, and stories were exchanged about the day.
