To the Editor:
I have lived in Vermont for the last 40 years, and the last 30 years in Searsburg. I hope the residents will vote for me for selectman on March 2 for a two-year term.
I have held a two-year term on the Board of Civil Authority. Due to the 2008-2009 tax appraisals on our properties, we have leveled off at 126% value on properties, when the rest of the state is at 100%, or soon will be.
In my quest to find some sense of all of this, I hit one brick wall after another. This led me to my third hearing on my property taxes, on why I/we are so high in percentage value.
I can’t understand how a selectman can have a multiple-room house and not pay taxes on the whole thing. Explanation: It isn’t being used for what it was built for.
We are all being taxed on all our rooms in our homes.
If I am elected selectman I will do everything in my power to work with the town for the people of Searsburg.
Thank you.
