DOVER- The alpine and boardercross competitors from Mount Snow Academy had a lively and productive week, taking home a number of honors. On Monday, February 8, the alpine J4s (ages 11 and 12) competed in a pair of Super G races at Stratton. Eli Swing, of Brookline, had a particularly good day, sweeping the top of the podium in both races. Richard Sherras, of W. Rupert, took fourth and 10th while teammate Sam Cusick, of Fairfield, CT, took an eighth and a fifth position, and Tommaso Auerbach, of W. Newton, MA, captured the fifth spot in race number one.

In other action, the J3s (ages 13 and 14) competed in a pair of Super G races at Stratton Mountain on Friday, February 5. Alva Swing, of Brookline, took a third and a fourth, while on the women’s side Sarah Reilly, of Stony Creek, CT, placed 13th and 14th. The J3 team then moved on to Willard Mountain in NY for a chilly night race on Saturday, February 6. Andrew Sherras, of W. Rupert, placed ninth, Alva Swing was 10th, and Reilly took the 11th spot among the women in her age group.

This coming weekend, the J3s will race at Magic Mountain. After that event, the Southern Vermont Council J3 team will be named. Those competitors will go on to compete at Killington against the Central and Northern Vermont teams to determine which skiers win the right to a slot at the J3 Olympics in Maine and the J3 Finals at Mount Sunapee.

The high points of the weekend for the riders were achieved by Noelle Edwards, of Stamford, CT, who put together back-to-back victories in the Southern Vermont Region boardercross competitions at Bromley on Saturday and Sunday, February 6 and 7. Edwards competes at the Breaker Girls level, which includes 12- and 13-year-olds.
