BRATTLEBORO- New England Youth Theatre will hold auditions for spring productions, starting this weekend.
First up will be auditions for “The Lion, The Witch, And The Wardrobe.” John Hadden will be directing this beloved fantasy of four young adventurers in the spectacular parallel universe known as Narnia. Hadden is a director, educator, actor, and writer with extensive experience teaching and performing.
Auditions will be held for actors ages 9 to 12 to play the four Pevensies (Susan, Edmund, Peter, and Lucy) on Sunday, January 3, from 1 to 2:30 pm at New England Youth Theatre, 100 Flat Street. Bring a one-minute monologue. It is not necessary to study the play, or to prepare an accent.
Auditions will be held for actors ages 13 to 19 on January 4, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm, also at NEYT. Auditioners will work together in a group. Again, prepare a one-minute monologue.
The rehearsals will be held Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 3:30 to 6:30 pm, March 16 through April 16; dry tech over the April 17 weekend; tech week three hours a day during the spring break. Shows will be April 23 to 25 and April 30 to May 2.
Also on tap are auditions for “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.”
Peter Gould will direct a new version of Washington Irving’s famous story “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” this winter. The age range for cast members will be 9 to 13. It will be ensemble story theater in the style of Gould’s recent Kipling productions, “Jungle Book” and “Just So.”
Actors will learn a lot of physical theater, individual and choral vocal skills, and colonial literary history and style.
A group audition for actors ages 9 to 13 will take place on Tuesday, January 12, at 3:30 pm. If anyone needs to make special audition arrangements, contact Gould.
Rehearsals will be Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday afternoons from 3:30 to 5:30 pm at the beginning, with longer rehearsals after the third week, starting on Tuesday, January 26. The performances will run from Friday, March 12 through Sunday, March 21. As of now, no general company rehearsals are proposed for the February school vacation, to allow families to keep their travel plans.
