Mr. Carey was born in Brattleboro Memorial Hospital on Jul. 9, 1947 to Robert John and Evelyn Strange Carey, of East Dover.
He graduated from Brattleboro Union High School in 1965, and served in the Army during the Vietnam era; he received an honorable discharge with medals.
Mr. Carey worked in the construction field in Massachusetts and the Vermont area, and in 1994 he established Carey’s Home Improvement business in South Newfane.
Mr. Carey is survived by his wife, Shirley Jean Whitcomb Carey; son, John and his wife, Susan; two daughters, Marylou, and Sandra and her husband, Douglas; nine grandchildren; a sister, Roberta Button and her husband Richard, of Chelsea; brothers, Marvin, of Chelsea and Donald, of Barre; and several nieces and nephews.
His parents, Robert and Evelyn, are deceased.
The family expresses sincere appreciation to the entire staff at VNA Hospice of Cape Cod for their support, compassion, and loving care that they provided to him in his final days.
A memorial gathering was held on Sunday, November 29, at Lighthouse Christian Fellowship in Sandwich, MA.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be sent to the local humane society or the Brattleboro Christmas Stocking.
He had six (6) grandchildren!!
