Brattleboro- On Saturday, November 14, at 8 pm, the Vermont Jazz Center will present a trio featuring Marlon and Edward Simon, Venezuelan brothers playing music on the cutting edge of Latin jazz. Their music is at the forefront of this vital scene because it both embraces and moves beyond traditional forms. The Simon Brothers are serious composers who create new pathways that allow them to play music that is fresh and connected to current developments in both jazz and classical music. Philadelphia bassist Michael Boone will join the Simons at their Vermont Jazz Center concert.

Edward and Marlon Simon are both juried artists and grant recipients of Chamber Music America; they have received multiple international awards; and their collective discography is staggering. They have appeared on recordings with straight-ahead artists such as Herbie Mann, Bobby Watson, John Patitucci, and Terrance Blanchard, and Latin leaders including Paquito D’Rivera, Luciana Souza, Charlie Sepulveda, Hilton Ruiz, and Patato Valdez.

To have these two brothers come together in Brattleboro in a rare, New England performance, is a lucky opportunity for the Vermont Jazz Center community. What surprises will they deliver? Edward Simon in the liner notes for his recording “Beauty Within” states: “I find sorcery to be directly related to music, and I like to think of musicians as sorcerers. Our true goal is to make magic on stage through sounds, through music.”
