The Twin Valley golf team faced off against six other teams in the 2009 Marble Valley Conference championships. The six teams played an 18-hole best ball tournament. In 2009, Stratton Mountain School walked away with the title as Twin Valley placed fourth.
Stratton Mountain School won the tournament with a combined team score of 334. Runner-up was Rivendell, shooting a team score of 370. Following Stratton Mountain School and Rivendell were Green Mountain Union High School at 388, Twin Valley at 420, Windsor at 422, and Black River at 425. Billy Ross, of Rivendell, was the medalist, scoring a 78, and Stratton’s Keith Schman was runner-up, scoring an 80.
Twin Valley’s top scorer was Beau Doucette who shot a 97. Following Doucette were Chandler Halbur with a 103, Scott Hayford with a 106, Mike Gramazio with a 114, and Connor Hunt with a 129.
The Wildcats showed promise earlier this season with a victory against Green Mountain and a second-place finish in a five-team field. All in all, coach Dale Doucette said he was proud of all his golfers. “I thought they played good. It’s just a battle playing 18 holes. It’s a hard walk,” said Doucette. “The weather cancellations also hurt our momentum (going into the tournament). But we still have some matches left, including sectionals. So we’ll get back in there.”
The Wildcats have three matches ahead of them. On Thursday, they play at Stratton; Friday at Crown Point in Springfield; and Tuesday, at Equinox. All matches begin at 3:30 pm. The division III state sectionals will take place at Mount Snow golf course on Wednesday, June 3. Tee off is 9 am.
