For the last 10 years, Brofsky has, like Attila Zoller before him, celebrated his birthday by inviting his New York-based musical friends to Vermont to join him in some hard-swinging jazz. The jazz center pays tribute to Brofsky at this event, but actually the gift is from him to us.
Brofsky’s music enhances lives by giving an opportunity to listen to a distilled form of jazz. His choices illuminate some of the music’s best qualities that have been retained during its long, rich legacy.
Armacost and Berkman were already esteemed jazz players with several recordings as leaders under their belts when they chose individually to attend the graduate program at Aaron Copeland School of Music at Queens College. This is where they came in contact with Brofsky who serves as professor emeritus and teaches a seminar course in jazz history. This concert is handicap accessible.
