The program, consisting of projected images of Richardson’s award-winning nature photographs accompanied by Butterfield reading his original poems written in response to the pictures, is the product of a 10-year collaboration. Currently their work is on exhibit at the Norris Cotton Cancer Clinic at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH.
Richardson is self-taught, though he has participated in workshops by some of the country’s top nature photographers, including John Shaw and Gary Braasch. Richardson’s articles on photography have been published in Nature Photographer. His images have appeared in calendars and date books, including those of National Geographic. Richardson lives in Vernon with his wife Carol.
Butterfield has been writing and publishing poems for more than 30 years. He is a graduate of the Bread Loaf School of English at Middlebury College, and has participated in the famous Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference, working with New Hampshire poet Maxine Kumin. He and his wife Nancy make their home in Hinsdale, NH.
Both Butterfield and Richardson are retired high school biology teachers. Their understanding of biological and ecological principles imbues their artistry with a deep respect for the environment.
In addition to featuring some of the photographs and poems from “Another Light,” Tuesday’s program will include a gallery of Richardson’s photographs matched to music and a trio of Butterfield’s newer poems from a set he calls “Town Reports.”
The program takes place in the library’s meeting room.
