BRATTLEBORO - Twilight Music presents an evening of original folk, indie world rock and old-time fiddle tunes with Vermont trio Wooden Dinosaur and Montreal/New York duo HuDost at Hooker-Dunham Theater & Gallery on Friday, March 5 at 8 pm.
Wooden Dinosaur is the musical union of Vermont-based musicians Michael Roberts (guitar, vocals) and Katie Trautz (fiddle, vocals). Combining a deep love for old-time folk, blues, rock, and experimental music, Trautz and Roberts have created music for the 21st century that knows no boundaries. Since joining forces two years ago, the group has toured extensively throughout the Northeast.
In September, the two began working on their first full-length album. Recorded entirely at home in Brattleboro, the two sought the help of a wide range of musicians from throughout New England. Early on in the session, Frank Roberts (twin brother of Michael) joined the group on marching bass drum and percussion, quickly becoming the much needed foundation for the band’s new work. The result is “Nearly Lost Stars,” an album that showcases the band’s strongest musicianship and songwriting to date.
For this CD release concert, the band will become a five-piece ensemble, joined by Craig Barowsky (trumpet) and Lauren Barowsky (euphonium) from Brooklyn, NY.
HuDost is a commanding, experimental indie world rock group whose core musicians are singer/songwriters Moksha Sommer (voice, piano, harmonium) and Jemal Wade Hines (guitars, voice, percussion). HuDost functions as an acoustic duo or a collective, incorporating musicians of varying sensibilities and backgrounds, and often including performance art, video installation, and dance.
Hooker-Dunham Theater & Gallery is located at 139 Main Street. Tickets for this concert are $12. For ticket reservations and information, call (802) 254-9276. For more information, visit www.myspace.com/woodendinosaur, www.hudost.com, www.twilightmusic.orgm and www.hookerdunham.org.
